In a bid to equip Malaysian youth with the skills needed for the future job market and to enhance public service delivery, technology giant Google has announced two groundbreaking initiatives. These initiatives are aligned with Malaysia’s MADANI Economy Framework, aiming to foster digital skills and innovation across the nation.
Upskilling Malaysian Youth with Google Career Certificates
Google’s collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) aims to upskill Malaysian youth from diverse backgrounds. Through this partnership, 161 public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges in Malaysia will receive up to 500 Google Career Certificate scholarships each until the end of 2024.
These certificates, designed by Google experts, cover fields such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and IT support. They offer flexible, self-paced online training, requiring no prior experience, and can be completed within three to six months.
Moreover, this initiative marks a significant expansion of Gemilang, Google’s digital training program launched in 2022. Since its inception, Gemilang has provided 31,000 scholarships, with 80% of graduates reporting positive career outcomes within six months of completion.
Enhancing Public Service Delivery with Google Workspace
In another strategic move, Google has partnered with Jabatan Digital Negara to deploy Google Workspace for 445,000 public officers. This initiative aims to streamline public service processes, facilitating tasks such as policy development, budget planning, and public consultations. Google Workspace integrates AI-powered applications such as Gmail, Chat, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Meet into a single workspace, enhancing collaboration and productivity.
Furthermore, Google Workspace offers built-in enterprise-grade access management, device management, data protection, and encryption, ensuring the security of sensitive government data.
Driving Malaysia’s Digital Advancement
These initiatives are part of a broader collaboration announced at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting, demonstrating Malaysia’s commitment to embracing technology as a driver of national competitiveness. According to Karan Bhatia, Google’s global head of government affairs and public policy, these initiatives have the potential to transform public service delivery and equip Malaysians with the digital skills needed for the future.
Creating Inclusive Growth Opportunities for Malaysian
With Malaysia’s digital economy projected to account for over 25% of the country’s total economic output by 2025, proactive efforts to expand digital skills are crucial. Google estimates that bridging the digital talent gap could unlock an additional RM87.8 billion in economic value for Malaysia by 2030.
In conclusion, Google’s initiatives underscore its commitment to supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation journey. By empowering youth with future-ready skills and enhancing public service delivery, Google is paving the way for inclusive growth and prosperity in Malaysia.
